Disaster is a sudden destructive event that causes widespread physical damage and loss of life and property. It is an adverse situation that widely affects human, physical, environmental and social activities. There are two types of disasters, one is man-made and the other is natural disaster.

Disaster management refers to how we can protect or preserve many lives and property when a disaster occurs. Disaster management means that all such measures should be taken so that the hazard does not take the form of a disaster. Since, we cannot prevent many natural hazards from occurring, but we can reduce their harmful effects by proper management to reduce the loss of life and property. Disasters are the results of natural or human hazards.

Importance of Disaster Management

The objective of disaster management is to reduce the occurrence of disasters and reduce the impact of those disasters that cannot be prevented. As soon as a disaster occurs, disaster management forces come into action and help in the relief, rescue and rehabilitation process. These are trained individuals and are given extensive training to perform in case of a disaster or natural calamity and they work as a team to minimize the loss of life and help the local people to get back to normal life. Disaster management has the following importance-

(1) Identifying the causes of disaster

Through disaster management, the causes of disaster are identified that due to which reasons the disaster has occurred and after that proper work is done on those causes so that help is provided to the people affected by the disaster and how such disaster can be avoided in future.

During a disaster, the people affected by the disaster are protected through disaster management in which an effort is made to provide relief to the person who has been affected by that disaster during the disaster, whether it is medical assistance, rehabilitation, etc., the victims are protected in this way.

Through disaster management, loss of life and property is reduced, which includes reducing social loss and economic loss. It is through disaster management that an effort is made to save humans and all human resources from disaster.

Values

Values ​​are things that a person wants, likes or desires. They help a person in his work, day to day life and business as values ​​make them easier. Value means ‘to have or strengthen value’. The dictionary gives the meaning of the word ‘value’ as relative worth, usefulness or significance, degree of excellence and something (as a quality) intrinsically valuable.

Types of Values

(1) Personal Values

These are the values ​​that are related to the development of human personality or personal norms of identity and protection of human personality such as honesty, loyalty, truth and respect. Values ​​are general principles to regulate our day-to-day behaviour. They not only give direction to our conduct but are also ideals and objectives in themselves. We need personal values ​​to help us and follow the right path in life. A person who adopts good values ​​becomes a responsible person and is able to identify right and wrong. Also, he is able to take wise decisions in life.

(2) Social Values

Social values ​​are the values ​​(standards) relating to social aspects of human life. For example, social status based on his intelligence, occupational performance, justice, kindness, generosity, tolerance, patriotism, perfection, excellence etc. Business organisations are expected to participate in the development of social values ​​through educative advertisements, cultural programmes, national integration programmes, assistance to educational institutions, etc.

The role of teachers has become very important in the modern era because they not only impart knowledge to the students but also teach them the necessary skills in life. While working with the students, the teachers also explain to them about the moral values ​​which are very important for a good citizen.

For the development of values ​​in children, ideal presentation should be done by the teachers themselves. Only by imitating the behavior of the teacher, children will be able to learn life values ​​like truth and justice, these life values ​​cannot be taught through books. Therefore, the behavior presented by the teachers plays an important role in developing proper values ​​in the students. The following are the roles of the teacher in the development of values ​​-

(1) Developing various moral qualities

School teachers continuously develop qualities like peace, love, secularism, unity, cooperation, cultural enrichment, creativity, national unity and brotherhood in their students.

(2) Developing a sense of self-respect

Teachers develop a sense of self-respect and self-expression in their students by respecting their personal qualities. For this, they do not look down upon their students but give them superiority.

(3) Providing opportunities to express their views

The teacher should provide opportunities to the students to express their own experiences. For this, there should be activities one day a week in which students express their views. Due to which students can express their views very easily and this kind of value starts developing in them.

(4) Maintaining discipline

Undisciplined students should not only be punished, but after knowing their abilities, they should be engaged in other creative activities so that their negative behavior does not get an opportunity to flourish. All this is done by a teacher, due to which the quality of discipline develops in the students.

(5) Motivation

The teacher should inspire his students to imbibe the thoughts and behavior of great men. Due to which students try to become like those great men.
